Kathy Westerly, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Born and raised in southern Georgia, my world changed at the age of 18 when I relocated across the country to California. This is where I eventually met my husband and raised our two children (and numerous pets). Though I have had a lot of training as a marriage and family therapist, I really believe I have learned the most from the many individuals, couples, and families I’ve had the pleasure of working with across the western United States. My most memorable experiences have come from the meaningful interactions I’ve had with my clients, helping them grow, heal and move forward. Having relocated to Colorado, I am excited to continue my journey as a therapist in Denver, while living closer to family and enjoying the sunshine, arts and culture .

Why I became a therapist

My desire to become a therapist emerged during my teens and early adulthood. Like many of you, I experienced many significant and impactful events during my life, which have shaped my development as an individual, spouse, and parent.  I have a strong desire to understand human behavior and have spent much of my career focused on learning about the underlying needs and emotions that shape people’s behavior and patterns of relationships.  As a part of my graduate work, it was strongly recommended that students undergo personal therapy, which I did.  I developed a strong and positive relationship with my therapist, and benefitted a great deal from my therapy experience.  She later provided couples therapy to my husband and I, and as we grew in our relationship with each other and with our children, she helped us to navigate many of life’s challenges that arose along the way.  My husband and I have been married for many years.  Together we’ve grieved the loss of one of our children to a long-term illness, and celebrated the birth of our first grandchild.   One of my strongest desires is to help others as they work through their own life experiences so that they may find joy and happiness in their relationships.
